STEP ONE: Paint gloss gel medium onto a hand-carved stamp. Stamp over the paper. Allow the gel medium to dry completely. Use more than one stamp to add visual interest.

STEP TWO: Wash translucent paints over the gel medium stamp marks and watch how the paint takes to the gel medium differently than it does to the unprimed paper.

STEP THREE: Take a paper towel and wipe the page down to remove paint from the gel medium area.

I stamped a pattern utilizing my own hand-carved stamps onto rice paper with white gesso and let it dry. The gesso will accept the acrylic color in a different manner than the paper and act as a resist when paint is applied.
